My mom is BIPOLAR HELP!!!!?

This woman is a freakin wacko! I know shes my mother but the things she has done to me…..its just not something mothers do to their children. Im 28 yrs old i do not dwelll on it but i have to deal with her still for a while till i get things how i need them to be. Ok when i was 10 i was abused sexually by her boyfriend, years later while we were arguing she had said( maybe in anger but still) if i werent sitting on his lap it would of never happened. Since the sge of 15 i have been pretty much on my own but also bouncing around cuz i never graduated high school or got a chance to have a secure place to stablize myself enough to get anything good for myself and its hard now. But & yrs ago i had a son and i took the best care of him i could living on my own until things got rough and messed up then i moved back with her for a min and we argued again as always, she kicked me out as well as my son we slept in my car and it was so cold that night.

Online Dating At The End Of The Rainbow

The journey to healthy online dating, intimate, social and personal relationships start at the beginning of the rainbow. Experiencing the joy of childbirth is analogous to viewing a beautiful rainbow. Many women love being pregnant! They feel sexy and sensual, busty and beautiful. Furthermore, every time they gaze upon their expanding bellies they must realize part two of this phenomenal and splendid act is about to commence.

Many loving and responsible parents verbalize the same statement, in anticipation of the birth of their newborn. “I want to give my son or daughter those things I never had”, is a universal statement. The statement made by parent’s echoes around the world. During the elation of the newborn, we fail to realize our traditional ways may have a negative impact on our newborn’s disposition, as she/he develops.

Manipulated by tradition, we believe there is no other means to an end other than the way of those who went before us. Fraud, manipulation, and deception have led us to believe that it is appropriate behavior to expose our children to fairy tales. We also accepted the belief that fairy tales are morality tales that will strengthen the moral disposition of our children. This statement is far from the truth, as children around the world who are exposed to fairy tales grow-up trying to unravel the complexities in their lives caused by being trapped in the fairy tale syndrome.

Our Fantasies Begin to Dominate Our Minds;
Our Desires Dominate Reason;
We begin to See Life;
As We Desire Life to Be.

Fairy tales and fictional characters harbor illusions in our minds, constantly generating a false sense of reality. We begin to believe what we imagine to be real, loosing all perspective of reality. If we fail to focus on the moment (reality), we may experience severe agony in the future. We are always concentrating on imaginary future events as the present moment and its life giving lessons pass us by. We find our dating relationships crumbling to pieces and we do not know why. We wake-up in a state of dizziness; our dating relationships resemble the workings of a revolving door, everyone is jumping on and off and it seems like life is spinning out of control.

Our fantas
1000
ies begin to dominate our minds; our desires dominate reason; we begin to see life, as we desire life to be. We begin to fantasize about the type of intimate relationships we are going to have even taking it to the extent of perceiving how we are going to act within the relationships. We create images in our minds, fantasizing about our knight in shining armor, or a Britney Spears look alike, or just the girl next door. We begin to fantasize about all sorts of things. It is similar to parachute jumping without a parachute. It is an enormous mistake because every action has a reaction. Not knowing what the next moment will bring, places us in an unprotected state.

When our fantasies fail to turn into reality, intoxicants seems to be an alternative. Our relationships with others turn sour and we turn on our best friends (even our imaginary ones). Fear increases, as well as our imaginary fears about future events that will never happen. Life for many becomes fragmented and unpleasant. We begin to experience a feeling of hopelessness, worthlessness, and pessimism. The aforementioned is the reaction to focusing on our desires (fantasies) instead of reality.

“In United States 44.3 million people,
18 and older—about 1 in 5 adults,
suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder”

According to the National Institute of Mental Health,” mental disorders are common in the United States and internationally. An estimated 22.1 percent of Americans ages 18 and older—about 1 in 5 adults—suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. When applied to the 1998 U.S. Census residential population estimate, this figure translates to 44.3 million people. In addition, 4 of the 10 leading causes of disability in the U.S. and other developed countries are mental disorders—major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time.” There is no surprise.

As the rainbow appears to fade away, the beautiful picture is no longer clear. What is now apparent is reality. Reality is tolerable when we accept it. Reality only becomes unbearable when we refuse to accept it. For those who are planning to experience that beautiful rainbow on the horizon, remember that universal statement “I want to give my son or daughter those things I never had”.

We must give our children the opportunity to experience healthy dating relationships and embrace reality by encouraging them to focus and live in the moment. Denied were many the opportunities to learn the truth about the harmful effects of fairy tales, fiction, and desires. Countless dating relationships and marriages have ended as nightmares because of a universal misconception, that is, children grow out of everything. Children do not grow out of anything (except clothing) and they just grow into other things. Fairy tales, fantasies, and fiction are vehicles that cause our children to experience gross disappointments in life and destroy any hope of a healthy dating relationship. We must ask ourselves the question; do we want to foster disappointments and blameworthy characteristics in our children? Let us build healthy online dating relationships together. Stay tuned!

Help defining difference between ODD and Bipolar in Children?

I have read many forums, websites, books, white papers regarding both disorders and have completed assessments/questionnaires as well. Many common behaviors are EXTREMELY similar. Also, since ADHD often accompanies ODD, the diagnosis is further complicated. After all, whatever behaviors are missing from an ODD diagnosis can be “made up” when you throw ADHD into the equation!
So…what is the differential diagnosis between ODD and BIPOLAR in Children?
My son is 8. I would suggest that depression is unique to Bipolar but how does depression manifest itself in an extremely active child who's always on the go? He would never sit in his room doing nothing – yet he has mentioned wanting to die, hating himself, and threatened to hit himself in the head w/a hammer during one tantrum. Those behaviors are more common with Bipolar. But again, there's never lethargy, lack of activity, hopelessness, etc. Psych appt (made 3 months ago) is still 3 months away – getting desperate

When you suspect someone is bi-polar how do you get them to get help when they don't see a problem with themselves?

As far as this person is concerned it's all of us who have the problem, and they're the victim. They're alienating everyone, laying guilt trips on people who don't jump for them and yet they have moments when they seem the happiest person in the world.

I can't cut ties, the person is close family and has children who bear the brunt of these massive moods swings. They pull the whole family into it and we're all sick of it.

Accommodations to help high school girl with Bipolar Disorder?

I live in So. California. My 15 -year-old daughter has been struggling with Bipolar II and has been hospitalized several times. She is on a new medicatipon regimen (again) and therapy. My question is about IEPs and 504 accommodations. She is now attending public school (11th grade). I am having a 504 meeting next week and need suggestions for accommodations to help her. I'm not sure what to ask for exactly. I have also requested testing and an IEP, which will come later. The 504 is a little more informal and can be done right away apparently.

She wants to do well and is very bright, but gets so stressed out when she can't concentrate. Homework is a big challenge sometimes. So is reading.The mood swings are an on-going problem. Some days she can't settle herself enough to absorb the material, even when I read it to her. I tell her to do what she can, but she feels the teachers will think less of her. She really wants to succeed, but she needs support. Anyone been there? Thanks.

Manic Depressive Disorder – A Definition

Among all types of depression manic depressive disorder or bipolar disorder is by far the least common. Nonetheless, according to recent studies and depending on the interpretation of the results of these studies about 1.3 to 6.4 percent of the population can be classified as having manic depressive disorder. This type of depression is characterized by mood swings between severe emotional lows (the depressive state) and highs (the manic state. In general manic depressive disorder is categorized as either Bipolar Type I or Bipolar Type II – the former defined by mania in its extreme form, the latter characterized by a less extreme expression of mania called hypo-mania.

The manic phases of manic depressive disorder are defined by a dramatic increase in energy leading to over-activity and over-confidence. The patient is also commonly over-talkative with a high speech-rate. The attention span is drastically lowered as is the ability to think rationally and to behave properly in social settings. This in turn leads to the affected person devising and pursuing unrealistic and oftentimes dangerous ideas, as well as to the unintentional creation of embarrassing situations in public. If left untreated mania can develop into a psychotic state. The hypo-mania characteristic for Bipolar Type II is less destructive than full-blown mania insofar as the symptoms are much weaker and usually last for a shorter period of time. The hypo-manic state can even lead to creative outbursts and, at least temporarily, to unusually high innovative problem solving skills.

The depressive phases of manic depressive disorder are in no way different than the depressive phases of other kinds of depression. The patient experiences prolonged phases of sadness, often without a cause, and a loss of energy leading to lethargy. He is indifferent and pessimistic; feels guilty and worthless; shows a loss of appetite and a change in sleep patterns – with insomnia being very common; is indecisive and unable to concentrate; experiences anxiety, irritability and anger. Furthermore, the patient may have recurring thoughts of death or suicide.

Sometimes manic depressive disorder patients experience a mixed state where certain aspects of the manic and the depressive state occur next to each other. For example it is possible that a patient experiences insomnia, paranoi
1000
a, anxiety and suicidal thoughts as well as agitation, aggressiveness and hyperactivity. Mixed episodes of manic depressive disorder often are the most destructive mental state leading to self-mutilation, suicidal activities and substance abuse if untreated.

While some sufferers of manic depressive disorder experience only a few manic and depressive episodes during their lifetime the opposite is true for many other cases of this type of depression. Rapid cycling of mania and depression is hard to control and has a worse prognosis than the other types of manic depressive disorder. Interestingly the use of antidepressants can have a negative effect on patients experiencing rapid cycles or can even induce the rapid cycling state.

Concluding it has to be said that manic depressive disorder is a serious condition and arguably the worst of all types of depression. Probably to a large extent genetically pre-determined it cannot be healed. However, the condition can be alleviated and controlled by proper medicinal management and anyone suffering from manic depressive disorder is well-advised to seek medical help as soon as possible.
